Wood Pointe Way
This is a GREAT home! This house is now at the top of the list, followed by the house on Northedge.
There was a lot of foot traffic in the house today, but everyone was a neighbor snooping (save one couple).
The neighborhood is in great condition and you can tell people take pride in their homes. There were a mix of younger (Nash and Zibby age) and older (teenager) families all along the street.
The commute to the Huntsman Shopping Center for the Pentagon bus took less than 5 minutes.
The commute from the Pentagon South Parking Lot took me 21 minutes, door-to-door on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Expect to double that time or even triple it during peak rush hour. I took I-395 through Springfield and then bailed off onto the Lorton exit (#163). I think where time can be made or loss in your commute will be at the Springfield mixing bowl (monstrosity of a road project that was started during your very first tour to Germany and is only now being finished...thanks VDOT).
The house is priced right to move. I think it won't last long on the market. Maybe 10-15 days. Hopefully when your parents come up on Tuesday they'll look at this one first. I think investment-wise you'd be able to rent it out easily as well. Lolly said a lot of the properties in the Crosspointe neighborhood rent at $2800 per month and up. She thinks this one could easily rent for $3,000+. She also said that since most properties are highly sought after in that neighborhood, they rarely sit on the market for more than 22 days.

Dayaaaammmmm, that's a nice car!
Shingles look like they are a little old. It's hard to tell in the photo, but there are a lot of calcium deposits on them, along with fading in several spots. I've roofed houses before, and I know that once they start looking like this, it makes sense to start shopping for bulk quantity deals at Home Depot. Luckily Carmen could get you a discount on GAF asphalt shingles!!!!
House is aluminum siding. Has been painted recently.
I checked the manufacturer's tag on this AC unit. It was built in July of 1991. That's really old. Trane's are high quality, but I think this may be on it's last of days.
All of the upgraded flooring is immaculate. Moulding and walls look great.
A lot of the screens in the house need to be replaced. Not a deal breaker and definitely something that could be negotiated into the cost of the house. They appear to be the original screens when all of the windows were replaced 15+ years ago.
View from the street down your super long driveway. Might want to buy a snow blower for the winter, especially if we get 18" of snow like last winter :)
Fence is a bit rickety. Bogey could easily jump it. At it's lowest point, it appears to be around 30" tall.

Design Sketches: May 2006
About a year before I found my condo, I came across a plot of land here in Arlington. The price was in the ball park of what I could afford, so I immediately began to come up with ideas on what I could build in the small space. Below is an idea for I came up with. I had some basic criteria for my dream starter home:
1. Modern style
2. Low maintenance
3. Balcony or deck
4. Garage
5. Sized for 1 to 2 people.

Three years ago, when I was in the "uber real estate anticipation" waiting period (that period between when your offer has been accepted and the titling company drags their feet putting together all of the closing documents for several weeks), I passed my time by sketching up some preliminary ideas about what my A/V closet would include. Some of the choices in electronics changed (for instance, I opted for an Apple TV device rather than a traditional Windows Media Center computer as I became an Apple-only household). Yes, this is the nerdy stuff...

Day 7: Are We Done Yet? Nope...
Slate is really heavy. Pretty, but heavy. I no longer need a gym membership. My guns are officially primed and pumped from moving these things around!

Days 5 & 6: Tiling-- It's Toats Ma'goat!!
Heather picked out a great glass mosaic tile. I took my time laying it and the results turned out really well so far. I still have to seal it, but it is 90% done.
Also, Heather primed and painted over the hideous Pepto pink ceiling and walls. The result? No more eye-sore!!!

Day 4: Drywall Party
I've never drywalled before. When I did the renovation in the living room a couple of years ago, I hired a contractor to build some studs and hang some drywall ... basically because I had heard that mudding and taping drywall was an art, and a bad job would totally show ...
Well, as a result of the rot and the plumber having to demo the concrete barrier holding in the shower faucet, I had to learn--quick!
I actually ended up doing a bang up job (brushing my shoulder off). I ended up mounting both drywall and backer board. I used drywall to fill in the space where the medicine cabinet used to be, and Hardibacker Backer Board around the tub (waterproof surface which is resistant to mold).

Day 2 & 3: Set Wayyyy Back
The plumber wasn't able to come on Monday .... or Tuesday ... and showed up late today ... delaying the procject by 2.5 days. Guess it was a good idea my fiance and I canceled our New Year's Eve party we had planned on hosting ...

Day 1: Bathroom Remodel
Almost three years after moving into my condo, I've finally got around to renovating the hideous, pink, bathroom.
I figure the project will take about 5 days (not really in a rush here) and will be a vast improvement (not hard since the little space doesn't even have an outlet for my fiance to plug in her hairdryer).
So far the plan is to do the floor in slate tiles, and the walls surrounding the tub in glass mosaic tile. The vanity will be upgraded to a double sink with drawers, along with the electrical (updated vanity lights, GFHC outlets and dimmers). My fiance picked out a beautiful set of paints to pull it all together.
No blog post would be complete with a few photos, so here are the "before" and "during" pics of the first day (a.k.a. "Demo Day").
Tomorrow I plan to replace the drywall with backerboard (it is rotted through from water damage), remove all of the trash and lay the first set of tiles.
I'm off to Home Depot to stimulate the economy...
